Tim Leatherman, from Oregon in the USA, created the multi-tool that bears his name, out of necessity. He and his wife were travelling in Europe in a high maintenance’ car that needed lots of adjustments. He had to improvise with whatever he could find but in a light bulb moment, wondered what would happen if he’d had everything he needed at his fingertips. In 1983, the first Leatherman multi-tool was ready for production and the orders have rolled in ever since.
